How do you know if you have flying squirrels in your attic?

If you find unusual activity in your attic, you might think it as a supernatural activity or courtesy of a rodent. There are always signs of rodent intrusion that can get you cautious. However, knowing which one of the rodents is it this time will be a task that you are going to learn through the facts.



Season Matters

Since they prefer living in woods, they will most likely not be inside your house in the summers. When the temperatures drop and they fail to find a safe haven, they might start looking for warm shelters. To make an evidence, the droppings play a huge role in identifying if they are the flying squirrel or some other rodent. If they have been in the attic for a while, you will start seeing droppings at different places. Eventually, the urine and the droppings altogether are going to produce odor that will lead you to knowing it is them.

Chew Marks

As many rodent like to chew, flying squirrels will leave the chew marks on wooden parts of a thing. You should be looking at the roofline or the entry points.

Sounds that they produce

In the middle of the night, if you hear scratching sounds, you may doubt these are squirrels. They are a cute little creature but they make a mess of their own for you to clean it up. The damage however is sometimes irreversible such as your wooden furniture that they will chew on. Low and soft chirping and clucking sounds are produced by these flying squirrels.

Another best way to find out is to do some nighttime snooping in order to detect them. If you see a single squirrel gliding here & there, you should know there are probably more enjoying their time nearby since they are colonizing and live in numbers.
